The Wildhandel Möller company from Erfurt has started a recall for frozen, vacuum-packed deer parts. According to the company, contamination with harmful bacteria cannot be ruled out.

The Wildhandel Möller company from Erfurt is calling back frozen, vacuum-packed roe deer parts with a best before date (MHD) on December 28, 2020 and the registration number DE TH 09247 EG. In the case of meat, “contamination with harmful bacteria cannot be ruled out,” says a message.

The Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety, on the portal "" the message can be downloaded, reports of a "detection of verotoxin-forming Escherichia coli (VTEC)".

According to the information, the product concerned has been on the market since January 15, 2019 and was only sold in the Möller game store and via the company's sales vehicle.

Customers who have the affected meat in their household are asked to stop eating it. If the goods are returned (even without a receipt), the purchase price will be refunded.

Health problems

According to experts, the discovered bacteria can lead to health problems, such as febrile gastrointestinal disorders. Such diseases usually manifest themselves within a week after infection with symptoms such as diarrhea, severe abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting.

Infants, toddlers, seniors and people with a weakened immune system in particular can develop more severe illnesses with bloody diarrhea.

And according to the Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL), five to ten percent of those affected, especially children of preschool age, develop "a serious clinical picture after the bowel symptoms (about a week after the onset of diarrhea)". (ad)
